Download Galaxy Note 5 Stock Firmware

In this page you can find and download the Galaxy Note 5 stock firmware. These stock firmware herein is covered entirely from the official software updates, including the factory stock, out of the box, and up to the latest updates.  These files have been officially released via Over The Air (OTA) and or thru Smart Switch. These were the official and the untouched firmware packages that we’ve just pulled out and keep it as a backup copy so we can use it beforehand.
Before you download a stock firmware you may need to check and confirm the model number of your Galaxy Note 5 first, just to avoid any undesirable outcome. To do this just simply tap on Settings > About Device > then look for the model number along with general system information of your phone. You might have had an unlocked Galaxy Note 5 that were just using another carrier’s SIM card. Noting that each specific model uses a different stock firmware build version. It simply means that it is not compatible with each other and cannot be installed to another carrier variants.

SM-N920A AT&T Galaxy Note 5

AT&T Galaxy Note5 SM-N920A is equipped with secured or locked “bootloader”.  It simply means that the device system cannot be rooted nor modified. Therefore, stock firmware is not necessarily needed, but it can be a big help if somehow you messed-up something in between on any modification attempts and ended-up like a bricked or unusable device. If somehow the device may just stuck in Samsung logo, or just keep on restarting (bootloop) all over and over again, then this is exactly what you needed to fix it out of your own.

SM-N920V Verizon Galaxy Note 5

Verizon Galaxy Note5 SM-N920V is similar to AT&T’s Galaxy Note5 SM-N920A operating system that cannot be rooted nor modified. The stock firmware is also not necessarily needed unless you might want to use it for repair. Just like if you have your device accidentally bricked by you and not knowing about the “Bootloader locked” feature.  Again, use of these stock firmware is solely at your own free will.

When Do We Use the Stock Firmware on Our Galaxy Note5?

The stock firmware is only used by advanced users, those who’s been involved on tweaking such as rooting and have installed any unofficial system images on their Galaxy Note 5. Stock firmware is also been used by aftermarket developers. Advanced users may only use it when a time comes that they are about to restore back their Galaxy Note5 to its original factory default settings.  While stock firmware itself is derived from the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), so aftermarket developers have had also some limited freedom to use the stock firmware. They’ve used a stock firmware as their base for making a custom made firmware, like adding some tweaks and style of the original design, including apps, UI settings, widgets bars and icons, themes, wallpapers, ringtones and even among other stuff  like injecting a superuser access or a root access.

Important Note:

You may only download and install the specified stock firmware according to the model number of your Galaxy Note 5. As you may not know, the Galaxy Note5 has many variants which we can simply differentially tell to which region and carrier providers it was being sold. Each of these Galaxy Note5 variants also uses a different firmware build. Installing a non-specified stock firmware to other Galaxy Note5 that possess with different model number may result into bricks. Meaning, it will also cause damage to the phone and you cannot recover it by your own.  So please don’t play around and messed with the stock firmware if you don’t know exactly how to use it.
If you use the stock firmware to unroot or return your Galaxy Note5 to stock, you must only grab the specific build version that matches with the firmware “build number” of your rooted or modified Samsung Galaxy Note 5.  You may not downgrade to the older stock firmware if your Galaxy Note5 already running on the latest updates.
For fixing an unexpected soft-bricks while modding, you may also try to remember the exact firmware build number and the Android version your phone was fully running. It should be the very least exact build before it ended into bootloop, stuck on welcome screen logo and won’t boot normally.  Let say, for example, the phone was running on  Android 5.1.1 and has the build version of “N900ABCDEFG” then you must only restore it to  “N900ABCDEFG” stock firmware.
DO NOT DOWNGRADE or Revert Back to older stock firmware as it also points out as an old software update. This should be followed accordingly to keep your phone to safety as possible.  If you’re currently rooted firmware and custom ROM is based on latest updates then you must only grab and install back the stock firmware that have matches to the firmware build number of the phone’s running at.

Here are some of the few insights why you need the stock firmware:

  • Revert back to stock – Restore or return back your Galaxy Note5 from any custom ROM to official firmware.
  • Unroot – Remove root and restore the device to the original state.
  • Manually upgrade – One of your last resort to get the newest software update when the time comes that OTA update and even the Smart Switch update has blocked your Galaxy Note5 when it finds out that your device has been modified. This technically happens if and when the device has been modified and / or rooted.  A modified device will no longer receive any official support from the manufacturer and dealers. When times you try to update you will get this advisory message saying “The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software updates using Smart Switch on your computer or visit a customer service center.”
  • Fix Soft-bricks – It will repair your Galaxy Note 5 when you ended up into bootloop, stuck at the welcome screen – carrier logo or Samsung logo. This only happens when one have just messed-up from modding the device.
  • Pull and dump any individual system files such as Kernel, Boot image, Stock Recovery, CSC, Modem, Radio Interface Layer (RIL) etc. (developers method)

What does the stock firmware cannot do?

Can I use it to Unlock the Galaxy Note5?

I would like to clearly emphasized that the stock firmware does not do for unlocking a locked Samsung Galaxy Note5 from a certain network provider. Some folks might have thought that flashing an unbranded stock firmware  on top on carrier branded and a locked Galaxy Note5 (i.e. the SM-N920F model) will unlocked the phone so it can be used to any other network provider’s SIM-cards. No, it is not. Though it will only de-brand the phone like changing the carrier logo, ringtones, default apps but it will still remain locked from the network.

Can I use it to Reset and Fix the KNOX Warranty counter?

In the recent Android version, there is this KNOX app that secures the user’s private data. The KNOX counter gets tripped from 0x0 to 0x1 once the Galaxy Note5 have been gone into modification like rooting, installing custom recovery and any system images that are unofficially built by Samsung.
