Android 7.0 nougat update not for P8 and Mate S

Update: Also Huawei Germany confirmed: P8, P8 lite, Mate S, Shot X and GX8 get no Android 7 nougat

We now have the official press release from Huawei Deutschland. This differs only slightly from Swiss. An interesting aspect is that the updates for Mate 8, P9, P9 Plus, nova AND nova Plus were announced for the first quarter of 2017.
The HUAWEI Consumer Business Group is announcing the largest update of its EMUI user interface EMUI 5.0. The update of the Android-based 7.0-based EMUI 5.0 will be available for the smartphones HUAWEI Mate 8 and HUAWEI P9 as well as HUAWEI P9 Plus, HUAWEI P9 lite, HUAWEI nova and HUAWEI nova Plus from the first quarter of 2017 onwards.

Update: Mate S and P8 do not get Android 7 nougat

We had already suspected it already in the original article and now it is true, unfortunately, because we have an official press release from Huawei Switzerland:
The Android 7 update with the latest version of EMUI - EMUI 5.0 - will be available for the Huawei Mate 8 and Huawei P9 from the first quarter 2017; Updates for the P9 Plus, Huawei P9 lite and Huawei nova also follow.
No talk about the Mate S, the P8 and P8 lite. Also, Shot X and G8 seem to go empty when it comes to the latest version of Google's mobile operating system Android 7 / Nougat.
Tablets, which we believe are fed up with updates by Huawei, anyway, is not mentioned in the press release at all.
Of course you have to draw a line somewhere, "whether you must now pull exactly with the Mate S and P8?", Will surely ask a few now, "since EMUI 5.0 is such a cool user interface, which would actually deserve on a Mate S, respectively, a P8 to run. "If you want closer to EMUI 5, which already on the Mate 9 runs, know where we recommend our EMUI 5.0 products.
We are aware that this article will trigger an average disaster for one or the other. Above all, those who bought the above devices in good hope, could also switch to Android N. We can not make any big hopes for Huawei Germany, because the technical requirements (see below) for the update on nougat for the Mate S or P8 are not available. According to our knowledge, Google has not changed the technical requirements unfortunately.

Original article from 05. September 2016: When does the Android 7 update for my Huawei?

A few weeks ago, more precisely on August 22, Google has released the latest iteration of its mobile operating system Android 7.0 Nougat. Now, many owners of Huawei smartphones ask us the question
When is the nougat update for my device or is it at all?
But if you follow the reports of the last days, the second part of the question is probably the most important. Because some device manufacturers such as Samsung, Sony, OnePlus or HTC have announced that some of their devices will not receive an update on Android 7.0 nougat. As a reason it was listed here that there are compatibility problems between the hardware and the new Google software.
Especially the graphic drivers and the support for the Vulkan API, which is required for Android 7.0, seems to pose a problem to manufacturers. Minimum requirements for running a volcano on a device are OpenGL 4.x and OpenGL ES 3.1. Many manufacturers can not meet these with their built-in chipsets.

Kirin chipsets partially incompatible

Unfortunately, the whole thing also affects our manufacturer Huawei. In addition to various Snapdragon and MediaTek chipsets, many popular Kirin processors do not meet these requirements. More specifically, it is Kirin 620, Kirin 920, Kirin 925, Kirin 930, Kirin 935 with Mali GPU.
This would also affect current Huawei smartphones and tablets like
  • Huawei P8 Lite
  • Huawei G Play Mini
  • Huawei Ascend Mate7
  • Huawei MediaPad X2
  • Huawei P8
  • Huawei MediaPad M2
  • Huawei P8 MAX
  • Mate S

With these devices it would be unlikely, according to the current state, that an update is provided on Android 7.0 nougat.
However, there are also good news. Huawei devices with Kirin 650, Kirin 950 and Kirin 955 like that
  • Huawei P9
  • Huawei P9 Plus
  • Huawei P9 Lite
  • Huawei Mate 8
  • Huawei Nova
  • Huawei Nova Plus
  • Huawei MediaPad M3

Meet the requirements and can get an update.
Since Huawei has not officially said about the update plans, it's all just speculation. Because of the very far-reaching problem, it is currently uncertain whether Google possibly changes to the requirements of Android 7.0 Nougat undertakes to also allow updates for currently incompatible devices.
