Prerequisites
- Download the firmware for your Galaxy J7 SM-J700M from below.
- Download Odin 3.10.7.
- Install Samsung USB Drivers on your PC.
- Enable USB debugging on your Galaxy J7 by going to Settings> Developer options.
- Backup the apps and data present on your Galaxy J7.
- Charge your phone to make sure it has 70% battery at least.

Install Marshmallow Firmware on Samsung Galaxy J7 SM-J700M
After making sure that you have done the things mentioned under prerequisites above and downloaded the firmware, please follow the steps described below to install the Marshmallow firmware on your Samsung Galaxy J7 (SM-J700M).
- Since the firmware file you download has a zip extension, you need to unzip it using a zip extractor program. Inside the extracted folder, you’ll find the actual firmware file with .tar.md5 extension.
- Also, unzip the Odin zip file.
- Now open the extracted Odin folder and run the .exe file as administrator.
- Power off your Galaxy J7 and reboot it into the Download mode. To do so, press and hold the Volume Down + Home + Power keys together for about 2-3 seconds. Release the keys when you see the warning screen. Now press the Volume Up key to enter the Download mode.
- Connect your device to computer using a USB cable. When your device is connected successfully, the ID:COM port in Odin will be highlighted and you’ll see “Added!!” under Odin’s log tab.
- Now click the AP button in Odin, navigate to the firmware folder and add the file with .tar.md5 extension to it.
- Now click the Options tab in Odin and make sure that only Auto-Reboot and F. Reset Time options are checked there.
- Okay, it’s time to click the Start button in Odin to begin the firmware installation.
- The firmware installation will initiate and the process will take a few minutes to complete.
- Wait until the firmware is installed. You’ll get PASS!! message in Odin when the process is complete and your phone will reboot automatically.
That’s it! You have successfully installed the Android Marshmallow firmware on your Samsung Galaxy J7 (SM-J700M).
Note:
Please wait patiently until your Galaxy J7 boots up. If your phone takes more than 8 minutes to boot up and sticks on the Samsung logo, perform a data factory reset via stock recovery.
