Root android and jailbreak the iPhone: what are the differences?

Often compared to root on Android jailbreak the iPhone. What are the differences ? What are the possibilities offered by the two systems after modification?

If at first glance, both manipulations may appear similar, there are actually major differences: you can not jailbreak or Android rooter iPhone and iOS. Analyze the points one by one.

The iOS jailbreak

Some iPhone users jailbreak their smartphones prefer just after purchasing, this allows them to perform operations and tasks impossible in principle on a non-jailbroken iPhone. The principle is actually quite simple: we blew up the bridle software developed by Apple on all devices running iOS.
To jailbreak an iPhone, a custom kernel is used to give access to the system root. Once jailbroken iOS, users can download applications from external sources to the App Store, install themes or extensions that Apple allows in principle not. A jailbroken device in this way can still access iTunes and its operation is not affected.

In fact, the jailbreak to install and use applications that Apple has not authorized. The root of Android is quite different, in fact, both procedures are incomparable, here's why.

The Android root

The Apple operating system is open source, it means that the system source code is not public. Android is open to him, it is possible for developers to program other than third party applications.
Android natively allows the installation of applications "from unknown sources", themes and other changes, even from an SD card or internal memory of the device. In fact, all that the jailbreak allows you to already be on Android.

What is the root of Android exactly? It provides access not only to the root system, but also to bypass the limitations imposed by the manufacturer of the smartphone (interface, applications, etc.).
This is made possible by the very nature of the Android system, based on a Linux kernel which in theory allows full access to the smartphone or tablet.
On Android, the root thus enables you to access the entire system. You can even completely replace it with another developed by a third party. These alternative systems are called ROM customs.

To summarize, with a custom kernel, you can rotate external applications on iOS, but you can go to change the frequency of its processor on Android. Big difference, right?

Android Rooted users can access the internal memory of their device, unlike iOS. Following the root procedure, the Super user rights are activated, it is possible to decide to grant access to certain applications. The root procedure is usually done by exploiting a security flaw in the original system.
In general, Google encourages root (many devices come with an unlocked bootloader, making it easier procedure), but warns of possible damage due to handling. Apple on the contrary is absolutely against the jailbreak and wants to keep a stranglehold on all distributed applications on the App Store.

Summary: root Android vs iOS jailbreak

The difference is just like in The Matrix. The jailbreak is a little Morpheus, which can change the rules of the system to avoid them, but it must still make do. The root is rather Neo, it can change the rules but also remove them completely.

Without going into very technical details, it is almost everything. The difference between the jailbreak and root on Android, you will understand, is a matter of opportunities to the user.
Do you think that the jailbreak is enough to fully enjoy their smartphone?
